Living The Good Life | Features

Aged care facilities have changed dramatically from the dark, almost lifeless nursing homes and hostels of old. These days, residents are encouraged to participate in activities and outings, and to maintain their interests and contact with friends in the wider community.

At Royal Heights, a weekly program of on-site activities is scheduled, including card games, bingo, bowls, skittles, exercises, gardening and fun learning programs and crafts - a range of handmade items, knitted wear, and crotched items are on display and sale, all proceeds go into the residents fund, which is used for entertainment or restaurant trips. We have a piano in the lounge and often have visiting musicians and singalongs. Additionally, residents are encouraged to entertain their hobbies in the home and residents meetings are held monthly to discuss matters of interest.

There are weekly bus excursions to diverse locations and all residents are encouraged to participate. Some of the past and regular activities include; swimming at Waiwera Hot-pools or Henderson pools, harbour cruises, restaurant and winery lunch trips, picnic lunches, visits to the Auckland Sky Tower, shopping centres, beaches, concerts, nearby clubs and museums etc.

The garden is maintained for the use and pleasure of residents, and various activities are held in the garden.

Library:

you are a member of the local library we encourage you to maintain interest in reading. Waitakari Library delivers Large print books on a regular basis.

Spiritual:

Residents wishing to maintain religious practices may have their chaplains visit the Home. Church services are held at our home every two weeks.

Food:

All meals are prepared on the premises and always from natural and fresh produce. The menus are designed around the residents preferences and dietary needs, with a large amount of variation and are approved by a dietician.

Mrs. Johnson & Honey

When Mrs. Johnson came to Royal Heights in 1995 the home also gained its' resident cat, Honey. Pam the nurse manager also brings her Boxer, Albert along for the day. So far Honey gets along fine as long as Albert stays out of her way.
